A dark and troublous timeThe Plot
Under the guise of an outlaw, Robin of Locksley steals from the rich to give to the poor, however his identity is threatened when he falls in love with the feisty Maid Marian.
She can only marry him if he wins the coveted Golden Arrow during the festival Archery Contest -- a mandate given by the Abbess of Kirklees. However the contest is a trap laid by the Sheriff of Nottingham and the greedy Sompnour. When Robin Hood is unmasked and imprisoned, it is up to Marian, the outlaws of the woods, and the community Robin has helped to stage a daring rescue. |
Englishmen by birth are freeThe Adaptation
Robin Hood: The Golden Arrow is adapted by Tyson Vick from the romantic and exciting play Robin Hood (1860) by John Oxenford with additional scenes taken from The Foresters (1892) by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, as well as drawing lyrics from Ivanhoe (1891) by Julian Sturgis.
The adaptation utilizes the classical framework of Acts and Scenes to bring the story to the modern medium of webisodes, each capped with an exciting cliff-hanger. |
How bright is the day!The Music
Robin Hood: The Golden Arrow features music on an operatic scale by composer G.A. Macfarren which, all combined, lasts over 2.5 hours. Written while the composer was going blind in 1860, the score sets the text by John Oxenford in varied and exciting movements which are performed in a musical-theater style in the web series.
The series also includes additional music by renowned composer Sir Arthur Sullivan who worked on two Robin Hood based projects in his lifetime: The Foresters, by Tennyson, which includes many folk-music style pieces, and Ivanhoe, his only grand operatic composition. |
